Today marks the beginning of this next chapter ahead. Meiko is on very close watch and being monitored every minute of the day as her pups could show up any time now. There will be a few days of rest and settle before Isla kicks into high gear and then repeat again for Leia.
Meiko is still content and happy with life but not moving very fast at this point. She is quick to flop down on the top of the big spool to sun bathe. Neema is now big enough that she gets up on the top of the spools quickly and easily. She pesters Meiko up there a bit but Meiko has made it very clear to her that she would like her to go back and chew on Tonka instead. Neema sweetly and submissively asks one more time for a quick kiss before she heads back to Tonka and Meiko complies. She’s been incredibly sweet and determined to keep her Mama Meiko kisses going in passing but also so respectful of her personal space that she kindly and gently requests.
As the days tick past, Meiko’s belly confirms what I’ve been suspecting all along… Lots of puppies! So many little ‘Plant’ babies to grow up! Baby Fern, beautiful Begonia, Ivy and more. I tell her constantly her figure is beautiful and she’s gorgeous in every way. She flashes up at me her gratitude even though you can see other figure words jumping through her head. My perfect mama who adores what she does. She’s famous for her smile and when you see her lay eyes lay upon her new arrivals, it widens across her face wider and wider every litter if that is at all possible.
These pups will be the first Tonka pups to enter into my world here at the Homestead and I’m itchy and tickled beyond belief to meet these gorgeous pups.
With the combination of Tonka’s stunning looks and his incredibly sweet and calm nature, I’m expecting phenomenal babes that will stop people in their tracks. Needless to say I’m so looking forward to getting these pups out to you all.
Isla’s litter will be Tonka’s next set of babes that will be showing up in the next week or so. Another stunning litter sired by him that I’m very much looking forward to and expecting to be show stoppers. With his long, dense and curly coat combined with Isla’s color and curls, these pups are expected to be smashing. Isla also loved her pups immensely from her first litter, her ‘Sweet’ Litter and was perfection in her birth. I expect nothing short of this as she brings her little ‘Classic Toys’ pups into this world. Can’t wait to meet Miss Silly (Putty), burn around with Lego, crossing my fingers Pogo (stick) won’t take after his name! and itching to love little (G.I.) Joe.
Â
Leia my own personal babies mama who will be blessing me with my next keeper pup. She is my tiny girl so her whole body is filled out in every inch to accommodate her upcoming pups.
Starting out very log like and now you can tell these pups are working their way into any space possible that they can. She has quite a bit more growth to be had and once again it’s obvious that she’s also bringing us a whole bushel of her own pups. Winston, who sired this litter is a big boy with a long magnificent coat, perfect structure and a demeanor to die for. Â
He’s a working therapy dog for his family that he lives with and adores what he does. I am hopeful he passes this aware keen attention on to his offspring. I have no doubt it will happen. It’ll be interesting to watch all these pups grow everyday watching and wondering which pup will stay. I’m sure I will change my mind a hundred times. Â
Batches and batches of meatballs get made and frozen to supplement the mamas as they take on the task of nursing so many hungry pups. Their nutritional requirements shoot through the roof in this timeframe so I'm trying to get a head start so I can keep on top of them all once their pups are here.  3 extra tubs of Nuvet powder are on the shelves for all the babies right beside the dozen bags of dog and puppy food for everyone.
Tonka and Neema have been loving 'camp' and bolt into their own little home away from home each night with gusto. They have become truly inseparable. It'll be interesting watching them incorporate Neema's new little sister into this dynamic.
The energy in the nursery space has been fabulous. The 3 mamas are slow and methodical. Each sauntering into their own space and melting into their surroundings. Our days have been filled with sunshine, creating plenty of dancing rainbows through the nursery windows, blessing our space with magic. The sunshine alone warms the space but the heater also aids in this process, adding a degree each day until we get to newborn temps. The routine of this week prepping for this next week ahead has been key. Putting everything into play and tweaking along the way has been great.
So now we wait, watch and monitor. I spend my time very close to home, never going very far. I keep on top of my yard work as Tonka and Neema entertain me from afar with their goofy antics. I go to bed early each night knowing things could shift any moment even though temps are stable (mamas temperature drops 1 degree 24 hrs. before birth and 2 degrees 12 hrs. before birth) I give all mamas rub downs constantly and thank them for these babes that they are going to be bringing into this world oh so very soon.
For all the amazing families that I get the opportunity to work with through this time, hang tight, this ride is starting very soon!
