A Fresh Morning, A Growing Belly, and the Sweetest Anticipation

This morning, we woke up to fresh rain and sunshine creeping through the trees. Everything was naturally washed, rinsed and hung up to dry ready for a new adventure. The dust was diminished and the air was a bit less stall hanging in the middle of a doorway as if deciding to come or to go.

 All the dogs bolted outside, rolled in the wet sand and made sure every inch of their bodies got a good scratching.

Tonka and Neema’s curls exploded even more because of the morning moisture. These 2 will no doubt be producing little cream puff pups with their very own built-in perms. Meanwhile, our sweet Noni Lei has been proudly showing off her growing belly. She has spent much of this past week in the classic golden position… belly up, paws relaxed, soaking up every ounce of attention. It is such a typical golden pose, but lately I think she has been using it as an opportunity to make sure everyone notices that beautiful mama belly getting bigger and bigger.

Babes have been bouncing around on the ultrasound more and more everyday and heartbeats are fluttering strong and clear. She’s slowed down just a little, but she was never a fast girl in the first place. She has always carried herself with that sweet, gentle golden calmness, and she is embracing motherhood exactly the way I would expect her to — peacefully, gracefully, and with her own sweet timing.

We are officially entering the final two-week countdown before these little ones arrive.

The nursery preparations will begin, and the excitement will continue building as we wait for this “little” litter to make their grand entrance.

We are waiting for Itty to arrive… for Bitty to show his little mug… for Teeny to squeak his way into this world… and for Tiny to arrive with the confidence of a chihuahua and the eager, joyful spirit of a golden we all know and love.

All my dogs here do exceptional with brand new pups and all take on a special role in raising each litter of pups. The aunties will come and go, checking in on the little pile of squishy squashy potatoes, offering their gentle curiosity and watchful eyes. Sometimes giving a quick kiss and sometimes offering a longer snuggle session only to disappoint the wee babes finding out that the snuggles do not produce anything at the milk bar that they think is there on every dog.

And Tonk… sweet gentle Tonka. He will proudly walk the perimeter like the protector he is, carrying himself with a powerful but graceful presence. Underneath that confident exterior, is a gentle soul secretly just waiting for the right moment to sneak in a few puppy kisses of his own. “Welcome to the world kids”

The lucky families ahead who will soon welcome one of these pups into their lives, will be renewed, healed, filled with furry fuzzy joy and go into the next season filled with a love that somehow grows bigger every single day.

For now as we work forward, we are soaking up these cooler days and enjoying every moment the rain brings us. But we know summer isn’t finished yet. There will be plenty more sun basking to be had, outdoor hose and water play days, wrestling and romping to be performed.
